A population-based cross-sectional NCD STEPS survey was conducted in Ethiopia amongst 10260 selected adults within the age range of 15-69 years in 2015. On the other hand, the data was cleaned using SPSS and STATA and analyzed using Epi Info version 3.5.4. After all these, a descriptive weighted analysis was done along with complex sample analysis, and bivariate and multivariate analysis was conducted for increased blood pressure and increased blood sugar. The survey result showed that the following basic facts.  (1) Totally, 9,801 study participants age 15 -69 years were involved in the survey and the response rate was 95.5%, (2), Among all current smokers of both sexes, 82.8% of them smoked tobacco daily and nearly 41% had consumed alcohol during the past 30 days prior to the survey, (3), About six percent of the study population did not meet WHO recommendations on physical activity for health, (4), Prevalence of raised blood pressure (SBP > 140 and/or DBP > 90 mmHg) among Ethiopian adult population was 15.6%, with no difference by sex, (5), About 16% of respondents were current khat chewers, and (6) Finally, the percentage of women respondents’ age 30–49 years that had ever undergone screening for cervical cancer was 2.65%.

Description

The dataset was generated by a population-based cross-sectional STEPS survey of non-communicable disease (NCD) risk factors conducted in Ethiopia among adults within the age range of 15-69 years in 2015. The dataset captures information on socio-demographic characteristics such as age group, sex, area of residence, literacy, highest level of education, ethnicity, marital status, employment status, and household income of the study population. It also contains behavioral risk factors such as alcohol consumption, tobacco use, Khat consumption, physical activity and diet (fruit, vegetables, oil, salt), physical measurements such as weight and height, waist circumference, blood pressure, and biochemical measurement (fasting blood sugar, total cholesterol) and Cervical Cancer Screening (women age 30-49 years) of the study participants. The data was collected by highly trained survey teams using pretested questionnaire and measurement from 9800 respondents. Generally, the survey provides baseline data of risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) at a national level.
