| Abstract | The Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS) 2024–25 is a nationally representative household survey conducted from July 2024 to April 2025 by the Ethiopian Statistical Service (ESS). The survey provides comprehensive individual-, household-, and health-related information for assessing demographic and health conditions in Ethiopia. The survey has national coverage and includes women aged 15–49 years and men aged 15–59 years, with men selected from all urban households and 50% of selected rural households. The Individual Recode Documentation describes the structure, contents, and variables of the DHS-VIII datasets. The documentation covers multiple recode files, including household, women, men, birth history, couples, children under five, household members, pregnancy history, pregnancy and postnatal care, sibling history, accident and injury, and HIV test-result datasets. The datasets are weighted by sampling area/cluster to support appropriate population-level analysis. The 2024–25 EDHS includes a broad range of demographic, reproductive, maternal, child, household, and health indicators. The questionnaires incorporate modules on accidents and injuries, health expenditures, early childhood development, maternal mortality, domestic violence, fistula, female genital cutting, and other country-specific health topics. Biomarker components include HIV testing and anthropometric measurements, including height and weight for children aged 0–59 months and women aged 15–49 years in the specified sampled households. |

| Description | The Individual Recode (IR) dataset of the Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey (DHS-VIII), 2024–25, contains individual-level information collected from women aged 15–49 years. The dataset is designed to provide detailed information on women’s demographic, reproductive, maternal, and health-related characteristics. The IR dataset contains information collected through the women’s questionnaire and includes variables related to respondents’ background characteristics, fertility history, marriage and sexual activity, contraceptive knowledge and use, reproductive preferences, pregnancy and childbirth, maternal and newborn health, antenatal and postnatal care, child health, and other health-related topics. The questionnaire also includes specific modules addressing areas such as early childhood development, maternal mortality, domestic violence, fistula, female genital cutting, and other survey-specific health topics. The dataset also contains information from selected health and biomarker components. For example, HIV testing was conducted among eligible women aged 15–49 years in the specified sampled households, while anthropometric measurements, including height and weight, were collected for women aged 15–49 years in 50% of households. The Individual Recode dataset is therefore an important source of individual-level demographic and health information for women aged 15–49 years and can be used to describe reproductive, maternal, child-health, and other health-related characteristics of women participating in the Ethiopia DHS 2024–25. |
