| Abstract | Facility-based study evaluating the proportion and contributing determinants of Neonatal Near-Miss (NNM) Events among Mothers Delivering Live Newborns.This quantitative dataset originates from a facility-based, cross-sectional study conducted at Adare General Hospital and Hawassa University Comprehensive and Specialized Hospital in Hawassa City, Ethiopia. Collected between May 9, 2019, and June 7, 2019, it includes data from 604 eligible mothers and their live-born neonates. The primary objective was to evaluate the prevalence and maternal risk factors associated with Neonatal Near Miss (NNM) events. Information was gathered via face-to-face maternal interviews combined with structured data extraction from clinical medical charts. The recorded metrics cover socio-demographic details, chronic illnesses, obstetric history, mode of delivery, and newborn health indicators. Case identification relied strictly on the standardized World Health Organization (WHO) pragmatic and clinical management severity criteria. Out of the total sample, the dataset captures 202 confirmed near-miss cases, yielding an overall proportion of 33.4%. Clinical records show that neonatal respiratory distress and severe infections or sepsis were the predominant clinical features. Statistical analyses embedded in the data reveal strong risk correlations with maternal employment and Cesarean section deliveries. Conversely, the data shows a negative risk correlation between neonatal near misses and pregnancy-induced hypertension. |
