| Abstract | During the Ethiopian Fiscal Year (EFY) 2015, covering the period from Hamle 1, 2014 to Sene 30, 2015, a total of 203 road traffic accidents were reported across the districts (woredas), city administrations, and towns of the Sidama Region. These accidents resulted in 131 deaths, 61 serious injuries, 10 minor injuries, and one property-damage-only incident. The findings indicate that fatal road traffic crashes accounted for nearly two-thirds of all reported cases, highlighting the substantial public health burden and the severity of road traffic accidents in the region. Outside Hawassa, Aleta Chuko Woreda reported the second-highest number of accidents with 13 cases, followed by Shebedino Woreda with 12 cases and Dale Woreda with 11 cases. Aleta Chuko Town and Bensa Woreda each reported 9 cases, while Wondo Genet Woreda recorded 8 cases. Hawela Woreda reported 6 cases, whereas Boricha Woreda, Bona Zuria, Teticha, and Leku Town each recorded 5 cases. Moderate numbers of accidents were also reported in Hula Woreda, Dara Woreda, Yirgalem Town, and Wondo Genet Town, each with 4 cases. Hawassa Zuria and Daela each reported 3 cases, while Loka Abaya, Bilate Zuria, Chirone, Chabe, and Aleta Wondo Woreda each recorded 2 cases. Several districts, including Bursa, Hoko, Shafamo, Aleta Wondo Town, Darara, Malga, Bura, Chire, Daye Town, Dara Otilcho, and Arbegona, reported only one case each. |
