Abstract

Community-based cross-sectional and phenomenological study design that employed a quantitative followed by qualitative method is conducted in Gamo Zone. The dependent variable is harmful newborn cord care practice, and the independent variables: (Socio-demographic and economic factors such as maternal age, maternal educational status, maternal occupation, wealth status, place of residence, newborn’s gender, marital status, husband’s education, and husband’s occupation) obstetric and health service utilization-related factors: (parity, ANC follow-up, place of delivery, and postnatal follow-up, mother’s knowledge and cultural and belief factors such as level of knowledge of cord care, health worker discussion on cord care). The source population is all mothers with less than six months baby, the sample size was 312 clients, and simple random sampling technique was used. SPSS software was used for data entry and analysis and the model used was logistic regression. The study period was from April to May, 2023.
