| Abstract | The dataset fine particulate matter concentration in Addis Ababa is generated in 2020. The objective of this study is to describe current levels of PM2.5 air pollution in Addis Ababa and examine temporal patterns and consider the health impact of current PM2.5 exposure levels. The PM2.5 concentrations were measured using a centrally-located Beta Attenuator Monitor (BAM-1022) for 3 years (1 April 2017 to 31 March 2020), with data downloaded biweekly. Deaths attributable to current PM2.5 concentration levels were estimated using the AirQ+ tool. The daily average was estimated using hourly data in the Addis Ababa region. Major variables and indicators include data collection days, the data collection years, months of respective years, days in (1-31), the concentration of particulate matter measured, Relative humidity in percent (%), and atmospheric temperature in degrees Celsius. The averaged continuous ambient PM2.5 measurements were used for statistical analysis. The R statistical software (R 3.6.2; https://www.r-project.org/) was used to conduct descriptive analyses, including time series plots and box plots. The 1-hour BAM-1022 data were aggregated to create the daily averaged data sets for PM2.5. Time series line graphs were used to explore the daily pattern and seasonality.

| Description | The Ethiopian GEOHealth hub for GEOHealth for Research and Training in Eastern Africa has produced PM2.5 concentrations for three years, from April 1/2017-March 31/2020, in Addis Ababa, using BAM 1022, which is located at the premise of Tikuranbesa Hospital (GPS 9.019472 latitude, 38.747887 longitudes). The aim was to determine the daily mean PM2.5 concentration, its trend, and variability by day and season using a time-series design. The data contain the daily PM2.5 concentration with weather data (ambient temperature, relative humidity), all generated by a BAM monitor that was cleaned and managed using a standard procedure. Briefly, more than 75% of hourly data represented the daily PM data. Less than 10% of missed data were imputed using established methods. The details of other methodological provisions are found in the published article. |
