Abstract

The current nutrition survey is the second of its series when GOAL Ethiopia conducted a standard nutrition survey in Bambasi woreda. GOAL Ethiopia has implemented a CTC program in Bambasi woreda since December 2010 in collaboration with the woreda and zonal health department. Therefore, GOAL has conducted this standard nutrition survey in the woreda to assess the nutrition situation, health status, and food security situation of the population. The survey was conducted starting from 15 to 30 December 2011.

The current nutrition survey covered the smallest geographical unit (village) found in the entire rural kebeles of the Woreda. In thirty-five rural kebeles, 163 villages were registered as the smallest geographical unit. Apparently, 35 clusters were randomly selected from the entire villages using Delta ENA for SMART, August 2011 software.

According to the findings of the survey, the current global acute malnutrition rate (GAM) is estimated at 6.9%. The coverage of OTP sites reached 100%, and all health facilities are serving as OTP sites. On top of that, the capacity of Woreda health professionals to run the program is efficient, and there is a promising future food security prospect in the area. Under all these normal conditions, GOAL Ethiopia should hand over the program (CMAM) to the Woreda health office to run the program in its own capacity.
