Abstract

The anthropometry and retrospective mortality survey was implemented Oda Bultum woreda in Oromia Region. The Standardized Monitoring and Assessment of Relief and Transitions (SMART) methodology was employed to determine the sample size in the implementation of an anthropometric and mortality survey. The main objective of this survey is to assess the overall food security and nutrition situation of the population so that proper intervention could be implemented based on the findings. The survey was conducted between, August 11-27/2015. A two-stage cluster sampling method was used to collect data for the anthropometric and retrospective mortality surveys. Out of the 257 measured children, 2.7% of them were severely malnourished (MUAC <11.0 cm and or oedema), 8.2% of them were classified as moderately malnourished (MUAC >=11.0 to <12.0 cm), and the proxy GAM of this rapid assessment in Oda Bultum woreda is 23.7% (MUAC <12.5).
