Abstract	This survey was conducted in the Oromia region of Melkabello woreda by Goal Ethiopia among selected clusters of household children aged between 6 and 59 months. The objective of this survey was to estimate the prevalence of acute and chronic malnutrition, examine the current health status of the survey population by considering mortality and morbidity rates and child vitamin A supplementation and vaccination status, and assess the food security situation among children aged 6 to 59 months. The findings of this survey revealed two basic issues. The prevalence of acute malnutrition based on weight-for-height z-scores was 13.2 % of them were classified as global acute malnutrition (GAM), 10.8 % as moderate acute malnutrition, and 2.4 % of children were severe acute malnutrition (SAM). The crude mortality rate and under-five mortality rates were estimated at 0.30 and 0.95 deaths/10,000/day, respectively. About 30.4 % of the children suffered from diarrhea, 36.6 % from cough (ARI), and 11.6 % from fever. The percentage of children vaccinated against measles by card, TB (BCG) by scar, and who received vitamin A in the last 6 months were 9.3 %, 45.8 %, and 75.1 % of the respondents, respectively.

Description	This dataset on standard nutrition survey in Melkabello woredas of East Hararghe Zone of Oromia region was conducted by Goal Ethiopia using a two-stage cluster sampling approach among 623 children and 653 households between October 28th to November October 10th, 2009. The dataset captures information on the prevalence of global acute malnutrition or nutritional status by measuring MUAC, morbidity status, health-seeking condition, child vaccination, and supplementation include vaccinated against measles, BCG (TB), Vitamin A supplementation, household characteristics including the condition of food security, accessibility to water, and community discussion which includes the level of access to health facilities, condition of the pasture, availability of water for livestock, and the condition of livestock. Generally, the objective of the survey was to estimate the prevalence of acute and chronic malnutrition, examine the current health status of the survey population by considering mortality and morbidity rates and child vitamin A supplementation and vaccination status, and assess the food security situation among children aged 6 to 59 months (or 65-<110cm in height). The data set also incorporated the household’s main livelihood, community discussion regarding health facility time, and water availability for livestock.
