| Abstract | Micronutrient deficiencies are significant public health problems across populations in Ethiopia. The most common micronutrient deficiencies in Ethiopia include vitamin A, iodine, iron, and zinc. This cross-sectional survey was conducted to estimate micronutrient deficiencies (Vitamins and Minerals) at the national and sub-national levels. Besides, the data were collected from eligible households (HHs) using a structured, pre-tested, and modular questionnaire, anthropometric measurements, and collection of blood and stool samples. The statistical analysis of data was performed using STATA version 12 and laboratory methods were used to asses’ status of vitamins and minerals in all target groups. The survey finding showed that Zinc, Vitamin A, and Iodine are public health problems according to WHO classification. Since the magnitude of the deficiencies of these micro-nutrients is widely varied among different target groups, targeted intervention required to address the deficiency in needs. In addition, Food fortification and supplementation of micronutrients, health promotion, and disease prevention programs should be strengthened to overcome the high prevalence of micronutrient deficiency and inflammation in Ethiopia. Moreover, industrialized scale salt processing and iodization should be aggressively promoted along with strong enforcement, monitoring, and evaluation to improve the Universal Salt Iodization program (USI). |

| Description | This dataset is generated by a national representative cross-sectional micronutrient survey conducted in nine regions and two city administrations of Ethiopia between March and July 2015. The dataset consists of many variables and indicators such as age, education level, Retinol, AGP cat, CRP cat, lnSTFR, lnFERR, B12 deficiency, stool result, anemia status test, smoke, region, residence, and malaria test of men 15-54 years old. This dataset is used to estimate the prevalence of micronutrient deficiencies among men 15-54 years at the national and sub-national levels and to compare the prevalence with other target groups across the regional levels and residential areas. Moreover, the data were collected by trained survey teams using a pre-tested questionnaire by interviewing men about their health status during six months and drugs they took prior to the survey. Hence Anthropometric measurements (height, weight), venous blood, and stool were collected from men 15-54 years old. The information was obtained by analyzed this dataset might help the Ministry of Health to improve their health and nutrition programs at the national and regional levels for the target groups. |
