Abstract

This dataset on the national population and housing census of Ethiopia was done by the Central Statistical Authority (CSA) in 1984 and conducted from May 9th to May 24th, 1984. The objective of this census was to determine the population size, age, sex, literacy and education, marital status, housing stocks, conditions…etc. The result of this census is available on the CSA website.

Description

This dataset on the national population and housing census of Ethiopia was done by the Central Statistical Agency (CSA) in 1984 and conducted from May 9th to May 24th, 1984. Ethiopia had fourteen regions, 101 Awurajas (provinces), 604 woredas (districts), and rural centers. Of these, the census included 85 Awurajas, 441 woredas, and 668 urban centers. The census includes five chapters namely; population characteristics, educational characteristics, economic characteristics, population dynamics, housing characteristics, and conditions.

The population characteristics included population size, residence, age, sex, age-sex structure, ethnic composition, language, religion, marital status, headship status, household size, disability status& type. The educational characteristics of educational attainment by age and residency. The economic characteristics incorporated economic activity status, type of activity, type of occupation, and type of industry. The population dynamics included fertility status, mortality status, and migration status. The housing characteristics and conditions were incorporated housing unity by type of building, usage of housing units, quality, housing amenities and facilities, the status of tenure, and the monthly rent was assessed.
