| Abstract | The 2011 Ethiopian National Food Consumption Survey (FCS) was conducted to provide evidence for the National Food Fortification Program. The survey collected nationally and regionally representative cross-sectional Food Consumption Survey among 8424 households (HH) across nine regions and two city administrations. In most HH, one child 6-35 months, and one woman 15-45 years were interviewed for selected socio-demographic characteristics, recent morbidity, anthropometry, and single 24-hour dietary recall, including recipes, food sources, and methods of preparation. The study data were managed and analyzed by CSPro4.0 and SPSS software. The results of the survey showed that: (1) the proportion of children, women, and men who reported consuming food that contained any purchased wheat flour (thus, potentially fortifiable) in the previous 24 hours are 28 percent of children and 20 percent of women nationally, and 67 percent of children, 52 percent of women, 47 percent of men living in urban areas and (2) the consumption of oil was much higher, with 45 percent and 50 percent of children and women nationally respectively, and 69 percent, 72 percent and 77 percent of children, women, and men living in urban areas. The study suggests that evidence-based justification is required in order to identify appropriate food vehicles and fortify any products for the general population. |

| Description | This dataset is generated by a national representative cross-sectional national Food Consumption survey conducted in nine regions and two city administrations of Ethiopia between June and September 2011. The dataset captures thirty (30) variables such as Enumeration area (region, woreda, zone, town, sub-city, kebele), wealth Index quintiles, energy intake (KCAL), Protein intake, Fat intake, Mineral Intake (iron, zinc, Calcium), Vitamin Intake (A, C), Salt, Oil and day of the week. Apparently, the data were collected by trained survey teams using a pre-tested questionnaire by interviewing adult urban males 19-45 years. Thus, the data are being used to estimate macronutrient and micronutrient intake among men and to develop the National Food Consumption Survey and a number of other diet-related strategies and programs at the national and regional level for the target groups (men). |
