| Abstract | The main objective of this survey was to assess the relevance and implementation of the health extension program in Ethiopia. The national health extension program assessment survey was conducted in both rural and urban household levels involving a total of 22009 households and 1890 households respectively. The assessment survey also conducted at the facility level including health centers, health posts, and health extension workers. a total of 179 health centers and 343 health posts were involved in the study in rural areas and 35 health centers in urban areas. In this national survey, more than 1200 clinical were also participated in both rural and urban areas to assess the relevance and implementation of the health extension program. Health service delivery modalities, the contribution of the health extension program for the reduction of maternal and early child mortality were also assessed in this study. Communicable, maternal, neonatal, and nutritional disorders (CMNNDs), remain the largest disease burdens of Ethiopians over the course of the HEP implementation. There is also an increasing burden from NCDs. |
