Abstract

This was an institution-based cross-sectional survey conducted by Addis Ababa City Cancer Registry (AACCR)  in selected health institutions with cancer diagnostic and/ or treatment services performed between January 2012 to December 2015. The objective of the survey was to assess invasive cancer cases diagnosed in residents of Addis Ababa city and describe their incidence patterns by demographic and clinical characteris­tics. This study revealed that there was a total of 8449 cancer cases, of these (67% females and 33% males) were registered from January 2012 to December 2015 in the Addis Ababa Cancer Registry. The three leading cancers were breast (33%), cervix uteri (17%), and ovary (6%) among females, colorectum (19%), leukemia, (18%), and prostate (11%) among men.

This dataset on cancer incidence and patterns in Addis Ababa Ethiopia is produced by 17 selected health institutions with cancer diagnostic and/ or treatment services conducted between January 2012 to December 2015. The dataset captures information on the proportion of leading cancer for females (breast, cervix uteri, and ovary) and males (colorectum, leukemia, and prostate).  This dataset also includes variables such as age, sex, date of diagnosis, and diagnosis of disease were assessed.
