Description

The  2016 Ethiopian GATS dataset is produced by a household survey conducted among nationally selected 10,150 individual representatives. The dataset used the time interval between the month of May 1 to May 31, 2016.  In that regard, the dataset captured information on the usage of tobacco among adults and key tobacco control indicators in Ethiopia. The specific areas assessed in the dataset were: the prevalence of tobacco use among adults, frequency of smoking, attempts to quit smoking,  the level of second-hand smoke in the workplace and home, public places exposed to second-hand smoke, smoking cessation, the economics of tobacco smoking (brand mostly purchased, expenditure to the cigarette in relation to GDP), media in relation with tobacco use (includes anti-cigarette smoking information, warnings on cigarette packages, cigarette advertising, promotion or sponsorship notices), knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions. Generally, this household survey is expected to give an insight into adult tobacco use and key tobacco control indicators in Ethiopia.
