The survey of Household Income, Consumption, and Expenditure usually has the major goal of providing basic data needed for the purpose of designing socio-economic policy as well as other related issues that might arise at the micro-level. To provide a general understanding and analysis of the levels and distributions of major indicators as well as a look into the trends across previous periods. For the purpose of representative sample selection, the country was divided into four broad categories including rural category, major urban centers category, and medium and small size town’s category. To provide a general understanding and analysis of the levels and distributions of major indicators as well as a look into the trends across previous periods. The data validation and cleaning activity were carried out by subject matter specialists and data processing programmers. The data cleaning and validity checking activities were carried out at commodity, household, and visit levels and have been done systematically. Various types of edit specification documents were prepared by subject matter specialists and used for the purpose. Literacy and education levels are on the rise, with 48.3% of the total population age 10 and above able to read and write (compared to 37.6% in 2004/5). Much of this growth was enjoyed by females, especially those in the upper expenditure quintiles. Although there is still a gap in the education and literacy of males and females and between urban and rural populations, the 2010/11 HCE data shows improvements for all groups. The education levels of both males and females have increased, and the completion of Grade 6 rates for household heads, for example, increased from 7.1% to 10.2% for females and from 11.3% to 15.6% for males from 2004/5 to 2010/11. |
