| Abstract | Measles is one of the vaccine-preventable diseases that contribute a significant share of the morbidity and mortality among children in most African countries, including Ethiopia. Ethiopia conducted a national –representative post-measles coverage survey to assess measles and OPV (only in the Somali region from 900 children targeted for the 2013 measles SIA) vaccination coverage from a sample of 14,400 children aged 9-59 months based on caretakers’ recall and fingermark used during the vaccination campaign. National coverage estimates were calculated based on weighted regional estimates where each region and each zone was an independent sampling frame. The national post-SIA coverage survey (2013) estimated that measles coverage through the SIA was 90.6% (95%CI: 89.8-91.5%) nationally, and heterogeneous regionally, with estimates from 78.0% to 96.1%. Additionally, the Somali region OPV SIA coverage was 92.1% with a 95% confidence interval of 89.6% to 94.7%. The LQA results identified 43 of 96 lots that failed to meet the minimal cLQAS criteria, indicating that significant post-SIA activities should be implemented to improve measles immunity in those areas. The overall coverage of the survey would be a promising result to help in reductions of reported measles cases. Health workers including health extension workers were considered the major sources of information for community mobilization. Distance to vaccination sites was one of the dominant reasons reported by respondents for children not being vaccinated. |

| Description | This dataset was produced by a nationwide -post-measles coverage survey conducted in Ethiopia. The data was collected from target groups (children 9-59 months age) using questionnaire and finger marks tools between May and September in 2013. The dataset captures information for each child selected for this study such as Age of child (months), sex, region, Measles vaccination received during the campaign (Finger marker, History (Caregiver report), Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) received during the campaign (Somali region only), previous measles vaccination ( number of doses), on the source of information for attending campaign such as town crier, health worker (health professionals, HEWs) in a health facility and in-home, Health development Army or Community Health Volunteer, Kebele leader or administration, religious leader, Family, friend, neighbors, Radio, TV and Other ), reasons for not vaccinated ( not informed, did not know about the campaign, too far, too busy to attend the session, Went, no service available, the child does not need measles vaccination, the child already received the measles vaccine, fear of side effects and Child ill ). Thus, the dataset is used to obtain descriptive statistics on Measles vaccination coverage at the regional and national level, OPV vaccination coverage for the Somali region only, sources of information for SIA (by region), and reasons for non-vaccination (by region). |
